6 Gold and 20 Silver Medals for Cava at the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships

Spanish cava had a strong and noteworthy performance recently at the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships, the most respected and rigorous international sparkling wine competition in the world.

 

 

The medal winners were recently announced, and Spanish cava makers took home 6 gold and 20 silver medals in total. This has allowed DO Cava to strengthen its position on the world stage in this market. Competition was stiff, with more than 1,000 wines from 30 countries competing, and the wines were judged by a panel of experts.

The gold winners from Spain were Agustí Torelló Mata 2015 Barrica Gran Reserva, Familia Ferrer 2014 Vinyes de Can Sala Cava de Paraje calificado, Freixenet NV Cordon Negro, Mascaró NV Pure Brut Nature, Pere Ventura 2017 Tresor Reserva, and Roger Goulart 2012 Brut Gran Reserva.

Silver winners included Capità Vidal 2014 Fuchs de Vidal, Cavas Hill 2017 Cuvée Panot Reserva Brut, Cavas Hill 2015 Col. Lecció Privada Gran Reserva, Familia Ferrer 2008 Can Sala Cava de Paraje Calificado, Freixenet NV Carta Nevada, Gatell Estate 2016 Heritage Brut Nature Reserva, Gatell Estate 2016 Initial Brut Nature Reserva, Josep Masachs NV Josep Masachs Tradicional Brut Nature, Pere Ventura 2016 Tresor Cuvee Gran Reserva, Maria Rigol Ordi 2016 Cupatge Dos Mil Setze, Mascaro NV Mascaro Rubor Aurorae Brut, Maset 2016 L’Avi Pau 2016 Gran Reserva Bn, Maset 2017 Maset Vintage Gran Reserva Bn, and Perelada 2017 Stars Brut Nature Reserva.
