CHINA-SPAIN WINE ASSOCIATION IS BORN TO ENHANCE THE PROMOTION OF SPANISH WINES IN CHINA
The founding conference of China-Spain Wine Association was held in Bodegas Portia in Spain on May 20, 2019. The conference had over 100 attendees from both countries, among which were Mr. Joaquín Aristegui (Director of Oficina de España Global), Mr. Fernando Salamero (President of Consejo Regulador de Rioja), Mr. Enrique Pascual García (President of Consejo Regulador de Ribera del Duero) and Ms. Zhang Yan (Vice-director of Consular Section of Embassy of China in Spain). Mr. Qiu Guangyu was appointed as the first Chairman.
In recent years, bilateral economic and trade relations between Spain and China have become increasingly strong: China is currently Spain's sixth largest trading partner in the world and the largest outside the European Union. Since 2010, the value of Spanish wine exports to China has grow steadily, reaching Euro 143 million in 2018, accounting for 6% of China's total wine imports. As the world's fifth largest wine consumer, the Chinese market cannot be ignored. In order to further promote high-quality Spanish wines in the Chinese market, the China-Spain Wine Association came into being, and obtained the full support of many Spanish high-quality wineries, including Portia, Vega Sicilia, Muga, Dominio de Pingus, Bagarda, Bodegas Ignacio Marín and others.
